…keep moving forward.

If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

–Martin Luther King

Don’t you love that wonderful quote from Dr. King.  Amen!, right?   In teaching computer science some days I fly, most days I walk, pretty often I crawl but regardless I am moving forward.   My hope is that you are moving forward anyway you can as well in your classroom.   Today was a great day in C-133 as I felt like a flyer implementing Jackie C’s packet simulation activity in CSP classes then lecturing on ArrayLists in CS-A.  The stars aligned and I was a rockstar today.  It isn’t always that way because sometimes I have a “Jill Moment” of life is real!

To celebrate the flying and documentation of said activity, next week I plan to detail how I adapted and ran the activity to have students fetch, retrieve and decrypt a packet — it was great fun and I think nicely emphasized what software and hardware do for us instantaneously every minute of the day.    Details next Wednesday!

Gina and I are spending lots of minutes lately talking about CS exam prep.  Coming in March we plan to have a 2018 bundle of resources for helping students and teachers stretch toward our bests.   Our ideas are below, but if you have thoughts or a wish list, please comment or email us  with ideas.  We will try our best to be creative and purposeful for you!

Here is what we are thinking and working on for the 2018 abstractingCS Exam Prep bundle ~

Computer Science Principles

  • coding projects to develop understanding and application of the CSP Exam Reference Sheet
  • worksheet-style review resources for The Internet, Data and Global Impact
  • multiple choice question analysis
  • strategies for cooperative learning in CSP test prep

Computer Science A

  • tips and tricks for FRQs
  • strategies for collaborative learning using released FRQs
  • suggested problem sets to code and self assess
  • suggested resources to maximize preparation for the exam

It’s time to say TGIF.  Go have a great weekend, and please spend some time flying (and dreaming BIG dreams) with those you love.

Blessings, Jill
